What does getting a crown involve?

It typically takes two appointments to complete a crown procedure. Your first appointment consists creating your custom crown by taking several extremely accurate impressions (or molds). A temporary crown will also be created using a mold. This temporary one will remain on your tooth until your new crown in fabricated by a dental laboratory, which typically takes about two weeks.

Your dentist numbs your tooth and then prepared it by removing any decay and shaping the surface so that it can fit the crown. Then, temporary cement is used to place your temporary crown. Your bite will also be checked to make sure you are able to properly bite.

During your second appointment, your temporary crown is removed, your tooth cleaned, and your new crown is precisely placed to ensure the bite and spacing is correct.
